The job, or lack there of

The job, that's a big long messy story. Right now, I don't know if it exists. Crap has been going on this past week, and I've not been to work since Tuesday. None of us have. The company in Gastonia, where it originated 15 years ago, merged/was bought out by another mental health provider around the time I started. Well, this wasn't supposed to effect W-S people, and then all of a sudden it did. But wasnt going to effect our jobs.. blah blah. In the mean time, down in Gastonia, the Chief Financial Officer was let go for some reason or another, and lots of admin type people were let go by the new company but we were told we were ok. W-S was supposedly set up to be totally separate. All of a sudden that was not so. Tuesday people on Gastonia were supposed to get their final paycheck (those that were laid off), well, they went to pick them up and 10 people got them and the rest didn't, or something like that. People started causing a scene, somehow police were involved and that news trickled to us in W-S. So, we couldn't get any answers, the VP who has been dealing with us didn't know, he wasn't even sure if his job was safe all of a sudden, and the founder/president wouldn't answer anyone's calls. So, we all packed up all our stuff on Tuesday afternoon, office equipment included, and left the office. There was a story in the local Gastonia newspaper about what went on down there, saying that the former CFO filed for bankruptcy last Friday and listed the company in his filings... so something sketchy is going on other than just this merger/buyout. In the mean time, we were ssupposed to get paychecks on Wednesday, haven't seen them yet. The president called the VP who called our little phone tree and said they were in the mail.. well, partial pay checks, not all we are owed. This was Thursday, no one has gotten them yet. And, supposedly the president is coming up to W-S to meet with us on Monday to decide the fate of the W-S office, that was supposed to be safe from all this. The VP, who hired us all and was coming to W-S at least once a week is owed for over a month's worth of pay, over $6000 and has taken one of the company vans hostage at his house and is driving it around. So, it's a big fat mess.

In the mean time, I happened to send in an application for Stokes County DSS (which is about 30 miles north of here), and had an interview there THursday. It went well, but the 2 positions they said I'd match best with don't close out until the end of the month, so it'll be 4 weeks or so before they can hire for them. AHH!! There is another new listing in W-S for a DSS child protective services worker that I'm applying for as well. I could call up The Children's Home and see if they'd still hire me in the case management/family therapy position, but I don't really want to get back into that place, and everyone says I shouldn't. However, if that is my only option.. we'll see. I'm going to keep sending out resumes and such again. Knock on wood, I have never not been offered a job that I've interviewed for, so I'm really hoping that that luck will keep up. Lots of fingers and toes crossed and lots of prayers have been going around. This is just nuts. I can't believe it.

The very latest, as of earlier tonight, is that no one got pay checks yet. Sherley has told one of the other CM's that if he doesn't hear from the prez by Monday at 5, he's going to go ahead on his own. He has some people that want to invest in the company and move it forward. So I guess it'd be just taking us and starting his own place with a totally different name and such. And, he's said he'd pay us for our time that Success didn't. So, where that money is going to come from, I don't know. I guess he'll meet with us all in W-S if the prez doesn't....
