Fireworks?! What fireworks?!
Well damn, my work week got started off with a bang!! And it wasn't because we tried to see 4th of July fireworks.
So, we decide to take the girls to Kernersville to watch fireworks. We only had 5, cuz 2 had gone home for the day and one is still in the hospital. So, whatever. We get in the car and head out and they start complaining about something.. then when we pull into the main drag of Kernersville, they start talking about the fact that it's all white people and being all negative about that. Then there are too many cops, myeh myeh.. then something else. So, we finally park and turn around and say 'Listen, shape up or we go home, stop making racist comments, be greatful we're bringing you out here, and change your attitudes!' Well, we walk all over creation trying to find somewhere to sit, then a few of them complain cuz they didn't listen and bring towels or blankets to sit on, there are bugs, etc. We sit and chill for a while, after walking to the concession stand, and 2 of them start playing tickle tag. One of the girls tickles a little too hard and hurts another girl. Ok, no big deal, the 2 of them were going to let it go, but the others get in and start insitgating, saying so & so did it on purpose, blah blah, arguing, yelling & causing a scene. So, Cat & I look at each other and say "alright, we're gone, get your stuff and go to the van!" So, we all tramp out. I was with the 2 girls that had the tickling problem.. we walked off ahead of everyone else, and I guess I missed a show by doing so. The other 3 caused a scene all the way out, being loud, making inappropriate comments about who knows what.. so we get to the van and I say, "once we're in the van, everyone is quiet. No one talks, when we get back to the cottage everyone keeps quiet and goes to their rooms until further notice." oooh, fear the wrath of Miss Nicole!! Well, they get pissy cuz we won't turn on the radio, make nasty comments about one girl they always have to pick on, and won't shut up. Cat & I ignore them, which finally quiets them down.
So, we get back to the cottage, I bust in and make sure the phone & all other stuff is put away so no one can try anything funny. They had already been demanding to use the phone to call their mama's to tell on how mean we were being. So, they come in, hollering about this & that.. and after 20 mins finally go to their rooms & shut up. Then, we do their daily point sheets and level droppers and nail 'em all good. So, then we go & do wrap up, and explain to them what they lost points and got consequences for. Everyone took it pretty well except this one girl, who is African American. We told her one of the reasons she lost points was for being disrespectful making all the comments about white people and cops. She flipped and got all defensive about it, and was like "what you're calling me a racist now?"... damn child. Then one of my PC's flipped about dropping from level 5 (highest) to level 3.. threw a fit in her room, hit stuff, threw stuff, yelled & cursed like you wouldn't believe. Then calmed down about 30 mins later, cleaned up her mess & was able to talk to me. What the hell?! So for that she ended up on level 1 for a day. Damn. So, finally that night ended. No fireworks, we left as they were starting. Well, I should say we didn't get to watch any fireworks, we had plenty of our own.
Then on Tuesday, the girl that was pissed about us suppsedly calling her a racist, kept up her pissyness & bitchyness. ooh, she was a brat. I finally had to escort her out of our physical activity cuz she was being rude to everyone and not helping the group. I marched her and another girl back, locked them out of their rooms & boy did that piss them off. Damn! Miss Nicole is on the rampage.. I told them they didn't ever want to push my buttons. I pissed off a bunch of 'em this week, and it felt good. "yelled" right back at them when they yelled at me & they kind of blinked for a second wondering what was happening!! lol. :-P Oy. All week they were just bitchy and more whiny than usual.
Ok, enough of that. So we have a new staff, Cat. She's GREAT!! She didn't take shit from anyone on her first weekend. I love her!! I hate that she's working the stupid shift, cuz we can't hang out ever.
Oy. I can't remember what else was on my update list.. it's at my place and I'm house sitting for mom & dad right now. Damn. Have I told you that Dee is staying in NC?? I'm so excited. She might not be staying at TCH, but then again, it might be that none of us are. The board of trustees fired the CEO randomly.. and we've all been told our jobs are safe but I'm not sure I believe that. As long as we have kids in the cottage it's true, but once they start being discharged or stepped down to another cottage, that might not hold true. So, I'm looking harder now. I've found a couple good sounding jobs that I think I meet the critera for. One is with the WS/FCS schools, being some sort of counselor for kids entering back into public school after being expelled or whatnot.. working with them and the families, making sure they follow through with all of what they need to do. It sounds great, pays great and would follow a school calendar!! A couple of other social work-ish type jobs too.. getting all my shit together tomorrow. Rah!
