Don't F*** with me
So, according to one of my co-workers, my supervisor refused to give a reference for me on Thursday or Friday, and instead of doing so, she called her supervisor to tell him about getting a call for a reference and he busted into her office to have a private pow-wow that interrupted the meeting my co-worker was having with the bitch ass supervisor. Of course, I don't know all the details, but this was the story told to me today when I went to pick up one of the girls to take her with me to a picnic for my diabetes group. She'll be working tomorrow when I get there too, so I'm going to clarify the details with her, and then confront all involved on Monday.
I called the new job people a little after 4 on Friday, and this crazy woman I'm supposed to be talking to had left for the day already. So, I left her a message saying please call me back asap and at least answer some questions about salary, job responsibilities, insurance, etc, because I have other interviews to compare it with in order to make an educated decision. I mean, hello, can you not pick up a phone adn tell me "we haven't gotten all your refs yet today, so it'll be Monday at the earliest. I really hope it's just this woman being a slack ass, and not the company as a whole.
So, I'm goiung to call the new job people Monday am and clarify what happened when they called TCH. Then, I'm going to try to speak with the head honcho guy that I interviewed with and see if he can tell me what the problem is. Then, I'm going to talk to my supervisor and possibly her supervisor and see what this shit is about her not giving a reference or not speaking to these people that called her appropriately. Because, like I've told my girls, just keep pushing buttons, and you won't like the Miss Nicole that you see. I can act as bitchy as these kids, and make my supervisors job a lot harder. I am not being big headed when I say I'm one of the strongest staff she has right now. I go above and beyond what my job is.. half the time I do shit she should be doing. I can stop all that in the snap of a finger and she can see what happens to the way the cottage runs. I can sit on my ass like so many of the RCs do and play on the internet, talk on my cell phone, or disappear for hours at a time during my shift. I can call in every other day or just not show up for my shift. I can curse at the kids and tell them exactly what I think of them. I can walk out of my shift and quit on the spot and totally leave you hanging with no one to cover your ass so you might have to do some work yourself. Don't fuck with my future unless you want to see how spiteful and vindictive I can be. This is just retarded. Maybe I'm over reacting. Maybe my co-worker misunderstood what happened, but it is totally feasable that this shit did happen, and pathetic.

Wow. That's really ugly. I hope you get this straightened out and that the TCH people will behave reasonably and won't try to jeopardize your future employment or something. And I hope your prospective new place gets their stuff together and can give you some info tomorrow. I know it's frustrating for you, wanting so badly to leave TCH but having to wait on everybody else to do things that you can't help speed along! What a mess. Keep us informed, even those of us who are about to be bitch-slapped by a hurricane. =)

Eeek! That is really unprofessional of them to refuse a reference without telling you. Though, better than than give you a bad one, out of spite trying to keep you. Did they not know that you were looking around for other jobs, and that they might be contacted to be a reference? As awkward as it might be to tell them you're applying for another job, receiving a call out of the blue to be a reference for a current employee can be shocking. Not that that justifies the obnoxiousness from bitch supervisor, but I've been surprised before to get a message about being a reference for one of our research assistants, when she hadn't told me ahead of time that she had listed me. At least this does something to explain the slowness of the official offer--perhaps it's just TCH slowing them down, and the new place really does have their shit together. I find it odd that they would unofficially offer it to you BEFORE talking to your references--it seems that if they'd do that, they wouldn't be slowed by not getting a reference later on. Hmm. Anyway, I'd be careful about being too demanding to the new place in your frustration....you can't really strong-arm them into giving you a job offer with all the fixins (salary, insurance, etc) and they could probably go back on their word. That sure would be obnoxious, but it was unofficial, after all, and I don't know if you'd have recourse. Stranger things have happened to people on the job market!!! Good luck, man. If nothing else, maybe you could explain to the new place what you wrote here about the supervisor--that you do her job by doing xyz things, etc etc--and that might explain to them her reluctance to be a reference (cause she doesn't want you to go!).

I know I keep saying the same thing but before I left I was in your shoes and I love C (before M became supervisor) but I was the one that trained everyone else. I was the one who took care of most everything with the kids. I was the one that had to put my foot down. I did this or that while other staff went to Aldersgate or Epworth or sat on their asses in the office. Get out of there if you can. Leave just go, M was very happy to have me when she first came, she knew my rep as a good worker and kept talking about how she'd hate to lose me so then she started bringing Tina more into the picture. I was first shift and I wasn't going to put up with having the whole of Oxford cottage on my shoulders. Leave if you can. Get a better job and a good position in a place where they pay better.
