Threepeat?!
Is it possible? Could Appalachian make some history and win the National Championship a 3rd year in a row?? After the exciting game on Friday, I'd say there's a pretty good chance!!
Some random facts:
• A victory would be Appalachian’s 11-straight in the postseason, which would set the FCS/I-AA record for consecutive postseason wins in contiguous years. ASU’s 10-straight postseason triumphs over the past three seasons match the record set by Georgia Southern from 1999-2001. Youngstown State won 15-straight postseason games from 1993-99, but wasn’t part of the playoff field in 1995, ‘96 and ‘98.
• The Mountaineers are the first team since Georgia Southern from 1998-2000 to advance to three-consecutive national championship games.
• Appalachian is 10-0 all-time when playing on ESPN, ESPN2 or ESPNU and have won 11-straight nationally televised contests overall, including wins this season over Michigan (Big Ten Network) and Western Carolina (ESPNU).
So, we shall see. Their opponent is being determined as I type.. game is Friday night in Chattanooga. I'll be watching from the comfort of my house!! ;-)
