I survived!
The first day of school didn't knock me out! Huzzah! 5 out of my 9 new kids started today. Some didn't come because the WS/FCS busses were out of control today.. not picking up kids, switching routes, coming at crazy times, etc. Some didn't have all their paperwork in order and will be starting sporadically throughout the week.
All in all though, it was a pretty good day.
My 3rd-4th grade class had all 10 kids and boy are they a rowdy bunch! Oy. Thank goodness I don't have to do group with whole classes!! Several of the kids have already asked me about that already though. LOL.
My 1st-2nd grade class had 2 new kids today, one of em is a HELLION on wheels! He was already banging on his desk, trying to keep things away from teachers and refusing to follow directions. OH BOY!
My 1st-3rd class only had 2 kids show up, and the one new kid so far just seems to like to talk and talk and talk! I can handle that much easier than throwing things!
Tomorrow my goal is to spend more time with the new kids and explain our group plan to all the classes. Don't know if they'll get it or not, but we'll see.
In other work news.. last week started world war 7 at Youth Opportunities, between our teaching & mental health staff and the YO uppity ups. Lotsa random shit that they tried to tell us to do, gave us no time to do it, and looked at us like idiots when we complained. Go figure. We had a 2.5 hr staff meeting after 3 days of straight training AND open house last Thursday... which ended in VERY heated discussions, hurt feelings and pissed-offedness! People who have no idea how to work with these kids/families telling us CRAZY expectations and other BS. So, Friday we all rebelled.. Jacki & I made T-Shirts to match folders we'd carried around all last year that said "I understand, I just don't care!". And, some of the teachers found out that the YO bitches had been rating them secretly on a 1-5 scale of "good teacher-ness", so we all wore 5's on our name tags during training to show that we supported all our team members and thought that they were doing the best job they could. Got some attention for that and caused the big wigs to come have lots of secret meetings and such. Jacki got grilled.. but she let em have it too!! Go girl! So, for Friday & today, she and I kind of got the silent treatment from our team leaders, the one on her way out mostly. Our new team leader seems like he has the potential to be cool, if he can survive the brainwashing from the YO bitches! We shall see.
Anywho, I need to get to bed. I agreed to 7:30am staff meeting with 2 of my classroom teams.. so I gotta get up by 6:15 to make sure I'm not late!! UGH!
