Tomorrow
I have to pick up Onex's ashes tomorrow. I'm glad that I will finally have them and that she will be back home, but at the same time it makes it final. She's really gone, this isn't just a bad dream that I can wake up from.
Thank goodness I have a home visit tomorrow early in the afternoon and can then be free to go deal with this.
Being at work was just odd today, it's like my head is not attached to my body. I walked out of the house without even thinking about packing my lunch or grabbing something to eat for breakfast. I think I drove like a grandma part of the way to work. I would walk to the printer in the reception area and forget what I was doing, or if I remembered to lock my door when I left. I'm just out of it.
The little kids up the street asked about Onex today and I almost started crying telling them that she died.
I got a really sweet email from a notoriously bitchy person at work, saying she had heard that I had lost one of my dogs, and that she feels bad for people that don't understand how much like a family member our pets get to be. It surprised me and made me smile at the same time. Amazing that animals can make even not so nice people bearable.
The Rainbow Bridge Story
There is a bridge connecting Heaven and Earth. It is called the Rainbow Bridge because of it's many colors. Just this side of the Rainbow Bridge is a land of meadows, hills and valleys, all of it covered with lush green grass.
When a beloved pet dies, the pet goes to this lovely land. There is always food and water and warm spring weather. There, the old and frail animals are young again. Those who are maimed are made whole once more. They play all day with each other, content and comfortable.
There is only one thing missing. They are not with the special person who loved them on Earth. So each day they run and play until the day come when one suddenly stops playing and looks up!
Then, the nose twitches! The ears are up! The eyes are staring! You have been seen, and that one suddenly runs from the group!
You take him or her in your arms and embrace. Your face is kissed again and again and again, and you look once more into the eyes of your trusting pet.
Then, together, you cross the Rainbow Bridge, never again to be separated.
