Little campaigners
I have to tell you a "funny" story from my 3 day babysitting adventure.
Thursday, when the kids were home from school and we were eating dinner or something, the oldest one (McKenzie, she's 10) asks me who I'm voting for. I told her I wasn't sure, cuz I was sure she was a brainwashed Bush person because of her parents. So she says I should vote for Bush because he's good and Kerry is stupid and kills babies (I'm assuming something related to stem cell stuff or abortion. I'm assuming stem cell since abortion doesn't really seem to be a big issue this election) and that's who she would be voting for if she could because her parents are. Then the middle one, Evan (8) gets in on it saying that Kerry isn't a good guy for some reason or another. She might have been the one that said the thing about the babies. I think McKenzie just said that we should vote for him because he's the president and we should support him.
So I told them, well no he doesn't kill babies, he just uses cells from babies that die to help people get better, like people with diabetes... and some other stuff. We actually had a really good conversation. I told them since they didn't know anything about Kerry they should find out some info before they say he's stupid. It's not fair to judge without knowing all about them. You have to be informed. And, that when they get older to vote they shouldn't vote how their parents do, they should have their own opinions. I think I handeled very well, considering I wanted to grab them and shake some sense into them.
Now, the funny part is that I left a little note for their parents saying that their kids were trying to convince me Bush was the man, and that now I felt I needed to do some convincing of my own.. so I left a Kerry/Edwards bumber sticker tucked into their computer keyboard drawer. tee hee. My mom said their dad would get a kick out of it. ANd I seem to remember him hassling me about my stickers last election, so hopefully they won't be offended. =)
So, yes, my babysitting adventure went well. Thursday my mom did a few hours for me in the evening so I could take my PC (Primary client at TCH) out to dinner and have some quality time off campus away from the pesterful other girls. It was fun, we chased boys around the mall. LOL. We went to see Raise Your Voice (the new Hilary Duff movie) Friday night, then had dinner at Coppolas, THEN went to Mom's to take the dogs for a walk. THe girls love to do that. They went with their grandmother this am at 10, and I came home and zonked out for a few hours. Man, getting up early screws me up!! Then tonight I babysat for another new family I was referred to by my regular peoples. They're just passing me around the neighborhood lately. =) Hey, more money for me!!
Ok, I believe that is long enough. I must go to bed. I need to get up before noon tomorrow so I can work on my research paper and get it sent off to my professor for more editing. I went to WFU library on Friday and got some awesome articles with great info to use for it, now I just have to get it all into the paper somewhere!!
