My first open house!
Tonight was open house for my day treatment program (Crest/Choice). None of us expected many kids/parent to show up, but boy were we surprised. I guess before no one had made an effort to call all parents & invite them. About half of each of my classes showed up, and I got to meet lots of parents! Always good, so when I start calling them to set up sessions they're not like "who the hell are you?" Rah.
So, now I'm uber excited about the upcoming school year, b/c along with my newly defined job description, I've now met and talked with a lot of families about what's to come. I get to do real family therapy (which also scares the SHIT out of me) and groups with the kids, and be part of a real treatment team with the teachers from both schools. I get to make things happen with referrals, meds (consulting with docs and/or psychiatrists, etc). I'm the leader of each classroom and together with the rest of the team make reccommendations, etc for these kids. :-O wow-wee.
So, needless to say, I'm excited right now and that's why I'm not in bed. The only thing that could make me happier is finding out that I have money to spend in the budget to get some group books and stuff for my office to make sessions run smoothly & my office more comfortable.
So, with that, I must try and sleep and stop my brain from whirring around!

Cool! It sounds like your job is really taking off and you have all kinds of new challenges to keep you on your toes. About the family therapy-- I'm not sure how I'd feel about that either, since it can be really intimidating to get in the middle of parent/child relationships! I know you'll do a great job! =)
